Serves: 4

1 kilogram prawns/shrimp
1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
2 green chilly, slit
2 big onions, thinly sliced
10 shallots, thinly sliced
2 1/2 tablespoons red chilly powder
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon garam masala (optional)
2 cambodge (kudampuli) / kokum
Salt to taste
3 strings curry leaves
2 tablespoons coconut oil

  1. Soak cambodge(kudampuli) / kokum in 2 tablespoons of water for 5 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon coconut oil in a pan and add ginger garlic paste. Saute for 30 seconds.
  3. Add turmeric powder,green chilies and half of red chili powder. Mix well.
  4. To this add prawns/shrimp, soaked cambodge(kudampuli) / kokum and salt. Add some curry leaves and mix well.Close the pan and cook shrimp for 10 minutes in medium flame.
  5. Switch off the flame and keep cooked shrimp aside.
  6. Heat 1 tablespoon coconut oil in a pan on medium flame. Add thinly sliced onions and saute it until golden brown.
  7. Add shallots, the rest of red chili powder and curry leaves to this and fry it for 1 minute or until the shallots are cooked.
  8. To this add cooked shrimp and mix well. Roast the prawns/shrimp for 15 mins or until it reach desired consistency. 
  9. Switch off the flame and garnish with curry leaves.
