This richly-spiced sauce perfectly balances the crunchiness of the fried prawns, making this dish the perfect indulgence for a special occasion.

Ingredients

500 gram prawn/shrimp
1 teaspoon black pepper powder
1 teaspoon fennel seeds
1 1/2 teaspoons ginger
2 teaspoons garlic
3 to 4 curry leaves
3 to 4 green chilies
1 big onion
1 small tomato
1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon red chili powder
1 tablespoon coriander powder
1/2 teaspoon garam masala
5 tablespoons oil
Salt to taste

Directions

  1. Marinate prawns with black pepper powder and 1/2 tsp of salt for 30 mins.
  2. Heat 3 tbsp oil in a pan and fry the prawns.
  3. To a heated pan, add 2 tsp oil followed by fennel seeds, ginger and garlic. Stir well.
  4. Add curry leaves, green chilly and onion. Saute the onion.
  5. Add the chopped tomato and stir well till it is cooked.
  6. Add all the spices except garam masala. Mix well and keep stirring for another minute.
  7. Blend this to a fine paste. You can add a cup of water while blending so that it forms a smooth paste.
  8. Transfer the blended gravy to the same pan and bring to boil. Add salt as needed at this point in time(Keep in mind that the fried prawns also has salt in it).
  9. Add fried prawns and simmer for 5 mins.
  10. Thicken the gravy to your preferred consistency.
