Ingredients
1/2 cup toor dal / split pigon peas
2 green chilies
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/2 medium size tomato, chopped
1/4 cup jaggery
1 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
4-5 curry leaves
1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
1 inch cinnamon stick
3 cloves
1/4 teaspoon hing/asafoetida
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon Oil
Salt to taste
Coriander leaves
Instructions
- Pressure cook the toor dal in 1 cup of water for 7 to 10 minutes or until the dal is cooked.
- Grind it to a smooth paste. Add 1 cup of water in it if its too thick.
- Heat a pan (Medium flame) and pour the ground dal in it.Add turmeric powder, green chillies, jaggery, tomato and ginger. Mix well.Close the lid and cook this for 5 min.
- Open the lid and add two cups of water and simmer for 10 min. Keep stirring occasionally. Switch off dal till it reduce it to recurred consistency .
- Heat oil in another pan . Splutter mustard seeds, cumin seeds. Add cinnamon, cloves and curry leaves. Mix it and switch off the flame. Add hing and pour this to the dal. Mix it well.
- Add lemon juice and mix well.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
