2 cups Chana dal/split chickpeas(brown)
1 big Onion, finely chopped
3 Green chilis, finely chopped
2 tsp Ginger, finely chopped
1/4 tsp Fennel seeds
3 sprigs Curry leaves
1/4 tsp Asafetida/Hing
Salt to taste
Oil to deep fry


  1. Soak dal in water for 2 hrs. Drain the water and pat dry with a towel. 
  2. Grind coarsely. Should be crushed not a smooth paste.
  3. Add onion,green chilly,ginger,fennel seeds, asafetida and curry leave to the crushed dal and mix it together. Divide this mixture into equal portions.
  4. Heat oil in a deep frying pan on medium flame. 
  5. Wet your palm, take each portion of mixture and flatten it to desired size. Fry it till golden brown .
