Ingredients:
1/2 cup uzhunnu parippu/urad dal/white lentils
1/2 cup kadala parippu/channa dal/split chickpeas(brown)
1 cup curry leaves
1 teaspoon hing / asafoetida
1/2 cup dried red chilly
2 big pods garlic(optional)
1 teaspoon black pepper (optional)
2 teaspoons oil
Salt to taste
Instructions
- Heat a pan in medium flame. To this add 1 teaspoon oil and both types of lentils followed by red chilies.
- Roast till the lentils become golden brown. Switch off the flame and add hing to it. Mix well and set aside.
- Roast curry leaves, garlic and pepper for about 2 to 3 minutes and set aside.
- Add salt and grind all the ingredients to a fine or coarse grained powder based on your preference.
- Add oil to form a smooth paste before serving.
